Fishing

The alarm went off at 3 a.m.
Gary hopped right out of bed
raring to go.

I yawned. I stretched. I tried
to come up with an excuse
not to go.

No luck, though.
So, off we went down the river
toward the ocean in the dark.

Of course, I had my camera
and started clicking away
waiting for the sunrise.

First we had to catch some mackerel
to use as bait for the tuna.
Some fellow fishermen were doing the same thing.

I waited and waited.
The sky got more beautiful by the moment.
Finally, it peeked over the horizon.

And Gary started catching the mackerel.

After that we headed to his fishing spot.
We saw tuna jumping. A good sign.
We got the tuna reels out and started waiting.

All of a sudden, one of the bobbers
disappeared under the water.
"We've got one on!" Gary shouted.

He quickly loosened the drag
so the tuna could run,
then ran in to start the boat

and release the anchor line.
I stood there with my camera in my hand.
Frozen.

Gary yelled, "Start reeling the other lines in!"
Where do I put my camera?
I ran in the cabin, put it in my backpack.

And that was my mistake.
Those few seconds made all the difference.
I didn't get the line out of the way fast enough.

The tuna pulled his line
right over mine
and they both snapped.

Gone!

Talk about being deflated!
After that we didn't catch anything else
except for some bokeh.

And a bird.

And a lighthouse.

In spite of the disappointment, though, we had a nice day.
But, I was glad to hear that his buddy
would be going with him the next day!

Pictures

Kylie, her friend Grace, and a snake.

Michelle and her uncle Gary.

Yesterday, Sally and I went to Gina's for lunch. Here she is with her dog, Lulu.

I took a few pictures of her magical forest.

We went to a patio bar on the beach and I took this of the Pier.

I got a kick out of this sign!

What's been tickling your funny bone, lately?

My Cutie Patootie

Lisa asked for some Kylie pictures so here are a few:

With her uncle and great grandfather

Goofing around in the pool with her mom

Posing for Grammy

Ignoring Grammy and her camera

Fooling around with Grammy's iPad

And a few fun pictures. I'm always experimenting when I see bokeh opportunities.

Michelle and her blue eyes with Danielle and her blue eyes in the background

Nathan and one of his blue eyes

And a pretty daisy with rain drops on it.

We had loads of fun swimming, fishing, eating lobsters and laughing.

What We've Been up To

This was a quiet week. No company. Just a little of this and a little of that.

I went to the beach. All I have to do is lock my bike next to this bench and walk up the path...

...taking pictures as I go.

We took a motorcycle ride to see the new house our friends, Don and Mich are buying. Here is Gary checking out the dragonflies on the pond in their back yard. While he was talking with Don, I roamed around snapping some of the wildflowers.

On Friday evening we hopped in the Ranchero and took a ride down the strip in Old Orchard Beach. It was cranking! Glad I wasn't walking around with all the people.

My friend, Gina, came down for supper on Saturday and brought me some pretty wildflowers from her yard.

As you can see, it's been nice and quiet and relaxing. This week Nathan and Danielle, and Erin, Sam, and Kylie will be visiting so things will get crazy, again! We are planning a lobster feed for the fourth. Yum!

How do you celebrate Independence Day?
