A letter

I wrote a letter today

A soft, golden time

A break from chores

A connection between friends

I chose deep yellow paper and envelope

Then added a red bird sticker

I chose my favorite pen

And let words slide down my arm and out onto the page

A Sunday Drive

...Boat drive, that is.

We worked all week on this walkway

so decided to take today off to go boating.

The ocean was calm and smooth

and the sky was swept with white clouds.

I put my feet up and enjoyed the peaceful sun.

We sat on the porch at The Lazy Flamingo restaurant and looked out at this scene while eating lunch.

Yes, that's me behind those Foster Grants, and beneath a red visor, and pile of snowy curls.

We still have a little to do to finish up. Tomorrow, we'll get sod to line the walkway but a break was so welcomed today.

Saturday Evening

Sitting on the porch enjoying nature's movie.

A magical rainbow.

Glazed.

And sunset.

Glazed.

Big dark clouds.
White birds highlighted by the setting sun.
A glass of wine.
Misty rain.
A completed project.
A new walkway to the dock.
Gary in the yellow bar chair.
Me in the orange one.
Another Saturday night.

My Favorite Time of the Day...

....is morning.

I love
slipping out of bed like a letter sliding out of an envelope
sitting on the couch watching my kitchen turn golden

Enjoying the history of our lives:
Nana Pauline's hutch,
the old Hoosier we bought on a skiing trip to Sugarloaf when the kids were young,
Memere's clock,
Nana Freda's toy sewing machine,
Nana Gloria's Hummells,
antique bottles Gary and I found when we were college students,
the anniversary clock Gary's father gave us when we got married...
all these parts of our lives floating around like dust motes, twirling...dancing...celebrating who we were and who we've become.

What's your favorite time of the day?

My Exciting Saturday Night

I found a new app that I've been having fun with. It's called Glaze. Look how cool!

It's super simple to use and any photo can be glazed a bit or a lot.

Gary's watching Mankind: The Story of All of Us. I'm fiddling with this. We are a wild and crazy couple!

Gratitude Journal: Day 30

Yay! I did it! Made it through the whole month. I liked thinking about what I was thankful for each day. It made me more present in the moment. And it made me realize how lucky I am to be retired, to have a great family and wonderful friends.

Even though I spilled a whole half gallon of grape juice today all over the kitchen floor, the fridge, the cupboards and even though I had to spend time with customer support for our cable, that is nothing!

When I get to see this every night, I know life is good.

When I get to walk in the dark and not feel threatened, I know how fortunate I am.

When I see our community transformed by Christmas lights and I have a camera with which I can capture the magic, I smile and am thankful for my husband and kids for getting it for me for my sixtieth birthday.

When I'm able to buy a cool gift for my granddaughter's birthday and Christmas, I know the value of hard work.

When I can sit around most of the morning and feel comfortable with my laziness, I appreciate this golden time in my life.

Gratitude Journal: Day 29

Thankful for the yummy omelette I made for myself this morning:

Ham
Sweet red bell pepper
American cheese
Pizza cheese blend of cheddar and mozzarella

Sadly, I didn't take a picture of it. :-(

Only took one photo all day as I was walking over to check the mail.

But, the good news is I had a letter waiting for me in our box. Thanks, Anne!
